1800's Knitting - The ladies' guide to elegant lace patterns, etc

The ladies' Guide To Elegant Lace Patterns, Etc.
1884

This is a fabulously old manual with great instructions for various garments and lace patterns, though there are no pictures to help you decipher what it will turn out like, it could be fun just to knit-and-see!

Update:
The very talented and clearly very patient Sarah from Knitting-and.com has been working through the patterns in this booklet and has complied a beautiful updated version which include photographs of the finished lace pieces and my word they are beautiful!

  1. Your post intrigued me so much (I can't resist Victorian lace patterns without pictures), that I knit them all and posted the updated patterns on my site. All I can say is wow, there are some really amazing patterns in the book. My favourite is the little wrist warmer with leaves across the top. It's a great way to make wrist warmers with almost any lace pattern.
